Northview Village SNF Visitation Guidelines Letter
Updated: 04/23/2021

Dear Northview Village Family, Staff, and Friends:

Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Missouri Health Care Association (MHCA) guidelines explain that visitation in nursing home settings should be “person-centered, consider the residents’ physical, mental and psychosocial well-being, and support their quality of life”(1). This guideline should be adhered to at all times!

  • Please be advised, these guidelines are used as a tool and can change at any time

The following visitation guidelines apply to Northview Village Nursing Home and are effective 04/23/2021:
Outdoor Visitation: Outdoor visitation is preferred even when the resident and visitor are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Outdoor visits generally pose a lower risk of transmission due to increased space and airflow. Therefore, visits should be held outside (outdoors) whenever practicable. Weather considerations (e.g. inclement weather, excessively hot or cold temperatures, and poor air quality) or individual resident health status may hinder outdoor visits. Northview Village has a courtyard that is well ventilated and also has a shed that provides seating for smokers. There are benches available and refreshments will be provided per appointment only.

Indoor Visitation: Visitation is allowed whether the resident or family member is vaccinated or not. Consideration should be made in regards to the number of visitors/guests per resident at one time and the total number of visitors in the facility at one time. As of now, we have one visitation
room and the courtyard. Visitors should be no more than two family members/visitors at a time and should be limited to one hour per visit if there are multiple visits in (1) day. If there are no visitors scheduled, then the time can be at the discretion of the facility. No more than two hours max for visitations. This will allow adequate time to clean, sanitize and disinfect spacing for indoor visitation. Visitors are prohibited from roaming the facility and are designated to visitation areas only unless they are scheduled for compassion care visits.

  • If residents are fully vaccinated and their family who is visiting is fully vaccinated, residents can have close contact, including touch, with their visitors while wearing a well-fitting face mask and performing hand hygiene before and after. Visitors must continue to physically distance themselves from other residents and staff while in the facility.

Leave of Absence (LOA): Residents are permitted to go on LOA if there are no restrictions from their guardian or loved one. Please be advised if a resident is LOA for more than 24 hours, that resident upon return will have to isolate for (10) days to monitor any signs and symptoms of COVID-19 infection. Protocol should be in place and document accordingly how residents are evaluated if the resident was in close contact with anyone suspected of having COVID-19 symptoms.

Scheduling Visits or Leave of Absence:

  • If you are requesting to visit your loved one, please contact (314)361-1300 and ask for Social Services to schedule your visit.
  • If you are requesting to schedule a Leave of Absence (LOA) with your loved one, please contact Social Services to ensure proper measures are made. Please be advised that if you are scheduling an LOA and are gone for more than 24 hours, the resident upon return will have to isolate for (10) days to screen for COVID-19 symptoms.

We appreciate your consideration and care of your loved ones during this time and will help navigate your visits to your family at any time. Please do not hesitate to contact us to help you during this time of transition!

Thank you,
